Mirror Mosaic Course - Weekend
ON SAT 24TH FEB AND SUN 25TH FEB FROM 10AM TO 4PM
Suitable for beginners and improvers.
Over a weekend students will be guided through making a beautiful mosaic for mirror from creating a design to finishing and grouting. In this course students will learn the principles of what makes a good design, which colours to use and the basic principles of cutting tessarae and andamento (how to create a flowing pattern). They will also be given a brief history of mosaic making. A board with a mirror will be provided and the size of the piece will vary between 20cm and 30 cm in size. Mosaic tiles and other materials will be also supplied. All you will need to bring is an idea.

- The direct method of mosaic making directly onto wood
- How to create a beautiful mirror with mosaics
- How to use mosaic making tools
- How to cut and lay mosaic tiles
- How to apply basic techniques of andamento (mosaic flow) into your work.
- How to create a stunning work using colour theory
- How to grout and clean your mosaic.

INSTRUCTOR: Alex McHallam
Alex McHallam is a mosaic maker and has been running classes and workshops for the last eight years. She is passionate about mosaics and in encouraging people to tap into their creativity. She is currently studying for a MA in Contemporary Craft at the University of Hertfordshire and is Chair of the British Association for Modern Mosaics.
