Quick Small Portrait in Mosaic - Indirect Method (Weekend)

Quick Small Portrait in Mosaic:

Indirect Method (Weekend)

Sat 18th Nov and Sun 19th Nov from 10am to 4pm

For all levels. Beginners and improvers are welcome!

Learn how to create a quick portrait in mosaic in just one weekend! Participants will get inspired by famous artists such as Picasso who utilised quick and effective brush strokes to create his portraits and convey the essence of the character instead of aiming for perfection. You will learn how to cut and shape ceramic and glass tiles and work with the indirect method of mosaic (reversed),  how to apply mosaic 'andamento' into your work (movement),  explore colour contrast and include light and shade into your work.

In this course you will complete a small portrait in mosaic of size 15cm x 15cm.

We have a large range of tiles in many colours, including previously cut materials. You don't need to be good at drawing for this course as full tuition and help is available.

This course covers

  • The indirect method of mosaic making directly onto wood
  • How to interpret and transform a portrait into mosaic
  • How to use mosaic making tools
  • How to cut and lay mosaic tiles
  • How to apply techniques of andamento (mosaic flow) into your work.
  • How to create a stunning work using colour theory
  • How to grout and clean your mosaic.
