Ceramics Course - All levels
Wednesday Evenings from 7pm - 9pm from 6th June for 4 Weeks
Beginners/intermediate, no previous experience required/or people can build on previous experience.
This course will introduce to the specific demands and rewards of working with clay – showing clearly what can and cannot be done with it. It will outline the main hand-building techniques (not throwing on the wheel) and surface decoration techniques. It is process and material led, rather than project led. This means that students are free to choose their own themes for shapes and decoration.
Students are encouraged to bring their own source material for their personal projects but if they need guidance or inspiration this will be given. A collection of ceramics and books for reference will be available.
The students may expect to make some or all of the following:
- a series of small tiles with various decorative techniques
- a series of small “makers mark” stamps
- a group of small slab-built pieces and/or some larger pieces
- platters or bowls using slump moulds provided
- one or more coiled or pinched pots
- sculptural work may also be made
